In the spring of 1869 Otto Spaleck founded his locksmith’s workshop in Greiz at the age of 28. His customers were merchants, craftsmen and manufacturers from the neighbourhood. From September 1869 he trained his first apprentice.
After his beginnings as a craftsman, Otto Spaleck began mechanical engineering in the middle of 1870. Already in the middle of 1880 he exported his machines to Austria, Russia, Scandinavia, Holland and Italy.
Together with his team, Otto Spaleck demonstrated high manufacturing skills and technical know-how. Soon SPALECK machines offered technical advantages that did not exist on the world market.
In 1905 Otto Spaleck made his first business contacts in the USA. In 1913 he founded a company together with American partners for the production of heald weaving machines. This was nipped in the bud with the outbreak of the First World War.
After the death of Otto Spaleck in 1921, the brothers Max, Johannes and Carl Spaleck continued the legacy of their father, but divided it up. Max concentrated on production for the textile industry. In 1928 he expanded the product range with the production of machines for the surface treatment of mass-produced parts.
Max Spaleck died in 1933 at the age of 52. His son Siegfried, 23, took over the management of the family business. The racial legislation of the National Socialists quickly obstructed Siegfried’s and his Jewish mother’s management. In 1944 she was deported and he was quartered in a labour camp.
The city of Greiz was only exposed to a few bombing raids during the war. The Spaleck factories had survived the war unscathed. However, in March 1946 the dismantling of the factory began. At the end of June 1946 Spaleck received permission to resume production. Production was resumed with a few machines.
In the post-war years Spaleck mainly supplied customers in the surrounding area with wooden trolleys. With the division of Germany Siegfried Spaleck gave up any hope for a market economy in the GDR. At the end of 1949 the Spalecks fled via Berlin to West Germany.
Since 1869 we have been sealing our business with a handshake. This also applies to our decision to become entrepreneurial after German reunification at our founding location Greiz in Thuringia. “Let’s just start now” Dieter Höland and Otto Spaleck decided after the fall of communism. The result is one of the leading surface finishers in Europe with many employees at the birthplace of the SPALECK Group.
With the foundation of our sister company NovoChem, the existing product division metal chemistry was transferred into an independent company. Today NovoChem is your specialist and quality manufacturer for slide grinding technology, membrane cleaners, industrial cleaners and products for water treatment.
SPALECK has been a machine builder since 1869 and has been manufacturing the associated conveying and separation technology since the beginning of 1960. Even before the turn of the millennium, the product range, which deals with the processing of bulk materials of all kinds, was put on a growth course. Today, SPALECK is the technology leader for screening machines and the “green” machine manufacturer in demand worldwide.
Metal processing is in our blood. So it is not surprising that we created the new product division precision parts in 1998 with the mechanical machining of components. State-of-the-art CNC machining centres and 3D measuring technology are just as much evidence of this as our machining experts on the machines.
With the new millennium, we expanded our product portfolio as a metal processor. We bring materials such as steel, stainless steel and aluminium into the desired shape for our customers.
The SPALECK Health Circle was founded in 2011. Its aim is to actively promote the health of each and every one of our employees. In addition to the establishment of a fitness centre in the company, a large number of courses with qualified sports scientists and trainers are offered: Yoga, Cross Training and Back Active are just a few of the courses which can be used free of charge by all employees and trainees.
For four generations, the manufacture of textile machines was an elementary component of the SPALECK Group. Around 80 percent of all reeds worldwide were produced on a machine built by SPALECK. The sale of this division is a sign of the successful transformation into a “green machine manufacturer”.
